In The Beginning...

Hey, thanks for stopping by!
A brief summary of how this all began...
The idea for super egg started way back in the late 80's one Easter Sunday when I was a little kid. I took one of those hollow plastic eggs that you can put money or candy in and drew a face on it. Then I got the idea to cut a piece of black fabric into a cape and taped that along with a string of fishing line onto the back of the egg. I called my creation SUPER EGG and enjoyed many hours of fun swinging my new toy around the house. A few years later when my parents bought a VHS camcorder one of my brothers and I made a short movie starring super egg where he fought against a bad egg who was turning people into monsters. The name Dirk Hodgkins wasn't applied to the character until I began the creative process for this series.
The inspiration to do this comic came one night after watching "The Toys That Made Us" on Netflix. I was watching the episode about TMNT and as I sat there I was flooded with feelings of nostalgia and awesome memories from that time. I thought, "I would love to make a comic book as cool as TMNT and be like Eastman and Laird!" Their story totally inspired me. I just wasn't sure what I would do for a comic. After a few days of mulling over ideas the memory of that fateful Easter Sunday popped into my head and I thought, "A comic about a super egg... that might work!"
I quickly got to work brainstorming and coming up with characters as well as the world that surrounded them, making sure to include elements from all the characters/cartoons that I loved as a kid. I must admit, TMNT is my biggest source of inspiration for this comic series. I would love for The Remarkable Dirk Hodgkins to become a successful toy line one day and maybe even an animated series! Fingers crossed!
The goal for this comic is to transport readers back to the days of TMNT, He-Man, and The Real Ghostbusters (3 franchises that I was obsessed with as a kid during the 80's and early 90's). Hence, this is why Dirk exists in an era much simpler than our current time, different, yet similar. It can be likened to the world we knew in the late 1980's. Many of the elements in this series come from a plethora of things that were incredibly special and meaningful to me throughout my life.
I do 100% of everything, so it takes some time for a new issue to be released. Your patience is truly appreciated! This site is also a work in progress and will be ever evolving. I could go on, but at the risk of boring you to near death I'll steady my fingers and stop typing. Thank you for checking out the website and I hope you and Dirk become close pals. now go read some comics!
Cheers!
